Alloys are a lot like a healthy relationship. Combining two (sometimes more! Scandalous!) elements that have their own strengths, but can become their best selves when joined with something else. Some of us are brittle and need a little something to loosen us up; mix in some Cesium! Feeling a little self-destructive because you’re Mercury? […]

This beautiful Swedish home is decorated in a vert light palette, mixing shades of white, light grey and beige with just a few contrasting touches in the green plants, the leather of the lounge chair in the living room, or the velvet pillow* on the bed.
This light palette might be boring to some, yet I find it calming and it has such a clean look, which reflects the natural light coming in from the windows. By painting the walls in a very light grey, the light furniture and accessories stand out a lot more as well and the green leafs from the plants become the eye-cathing element in this interior.
We’ve caught whiff of an exciting new IKEA candle collection, due to arrive in stores from next month.
Developed in collaboration with luxury fragrance house Byredo, the new IKEA candles offer luxury scents to those on a budget – with prices starting from just £5.
The highly anticipated candle collection consists of 13 evocative fragrances. Including Pomegranate and Amber, Peach Blossom and Bamboo, Swedish Birch and Juniper and Tobacco and Honey. With each one designed to evoke memories and emotions, and enhance the atmosphere in our homes.
New ‘Osynlig’ IKEA candles
‘The way your home smells is very emotional and plays a huge part in how you feel being there’ explains Ben Gorham, Founder of Byredo. ‘It isn’t just about things being functional and practical, it’s the place where you come together with family and friends and make memories.’
‘We’ve developed an array of smells highlighting the idea that everyone has a different relationship to scents, and nothing is right or wrong.’
The scents are divided into three different bases– fresh, floral, and woody. These have been curated to help guide people to the aromas that will best suit them. Created using Byredo’s renowned quality raw ingredients and chosen with care to create unique, memorable fragrances, each candle pot is then glazed with a blend of two colours that represent its ingredients.
The hand-made ceramic pots can also be reused once the candle is finished. Designed with this upcycle angle in mind, the pots are ideal to store small trinkets or simply add decoration to a home.
Each uniquely designed candle pot also symbolises our strong relationship with scent. The triangle-shaped marking on each container is a reference to one of the most popular ways we smell fragrance. As a combination of top notes, which you smell first. Middle notes, which come next and last longer. And lastly base notes – which form the bottom of the triangle and remain for the entire duration of the fragrance.
The new IKEA candles will be available to purchase exclusively in stores from November.

Hi friends, it’s Courtney here today! So, I’ve realized in the last year that I’m a big fan of making pies. I made my first pie last year for Thanksgiving (with fall pie crust cutters), and it’s become a fun hobby for me ever since. I’m not a professional by any means, but I’ve quite […]

That bottle of laundry detergent or washing powder isn’t just good at cleaning your clothes. The powerful cleaning agent can be used in a host of laundry detergent hacks to get your home sparkling.
We have rounded up five of our favourite hacks to try out at home.
Laundry detergent hacks
1.Unclog a drain
Rather than forking out on an expensive drain unblocker, try shifting the block with liquid laundry detergent. Pour 59 ml of laundry detergent down you sink, followed by a lot of boiling water – roughly 4.5 litres.
The hot water and detergent should work together to dislodge any clogs and flush them out.
This hack was made famous by the Go Clean Co cleaning company on Instagram. It uses powdered laundry detergent to make an all-purpose cleaning solution.
Mix 80 ml of bleach, one teaspoon of powdered laundry detergent, and 4.5 litres of water in a bucket. The solution can be used on walls and bathroom surfaces.
However, do be careful when mixing cleaning products, especially bleach.
We know that laundry detergent is great for tackling clothing stains. So, it only makes sense that it would be perfect for tackling stains on upholstery and carpet.
Apply powdered laundry detergent to a stain. Work the detergent gently into the stain using a damp cloth. Wait five minutes and brush away any excess detergent. Repeat until the stain goes.
Laundry detergent makes a perfect floor cleaner. The cleaning enzymes will quickly get to work on any mucky floors. Plus your home will smell incredible when you’re done.
Add just one teaspoon of laundry detergent to a bucket of hot water and start mopping.
5.Clean oven racks
If you are struggling to tackle greasy oven racks give them the laundry detergent treatment. Place the racks in a bathtub or large bin and fill with hot water.
Add 177ml of laundry detergent and leave it to sit overnight. In the morning use a sponge or brush to scrub away the remaining grease.
Who knew that bottle of laundry detergent could be so handy?

Over the past week even with a few problems happening, like cable and internet service going down and having to be deal with it, I did manage to get a few things checked off my “to-do” list. The biggest was finishing the makeover of my kitchen table. It came out better than I expected, yet...

Lightbulbs have come a long way in the past 150 or so years. Starting out with entirely toxic materials and hairstyles resembling Doc from Back to the Future, we have emerged triumphant, deliciously energy efficient, and with perfectly coiffed hair. The LED corn light is the shiny new alternative to high-pressure sodium lamps that are […]

If you’re anything like me, you have always wanted to take a peek into these beautiful canal houses in Amsterdam. Well, this one is certainly a wonderful combination of beautiful historic architecture, combined with a modern interior.
This is the home of Thomas Geerlings, creative director of Framework. The building dates back to 1896 and is a former warehouse, which had to undergo a complete renovation. They went for a cozy look and feel for their family home, without loosing the history and industrial character of the former warehouse.
